Johnathan Rice and Whispertown2007 @ Spaceland
This month, Spaceland’s residency is singer/songwriter JOHNATHAN RICE and he’s brought all of his friends! Go see him play every Monday night in the month of April for FREE! So you’ve missed a week, but he still has two more weeks to go!
Last night Los Angeles natives, Whispertown2000, opened the night with a beautiful set. The dual harmonies of Morgan Nagler and Vanesa Corbala is similar to that of a peanut butter and banana sandwhich…sweet, formulated and textured…with a country twist of course. Maybe that sounds cheesey, but they really do make you smile and giggle cause they’re so gosh darn cute and talented.

As Whispertown2000 finished their set, we looked around and noticed some familiar faces in the crowd. Jenny Lewis and Jason Bosel of Rilo Kiley were there, as well as singer/songwriter Maria Taylor who came to rock out and lend their support to local music. Kind of a beautiful thing if you ask me.
An hour later, Johnathan Rice hit the stage and by this time Spaceland was packed with fans and friends.

A few songs in, Johnathan Rice invited Jenny Lewis on stage for a duet…unexpected, but not shocking. They performed two songs together and it was beautiful. Jenny Lewis had the biggest grin on her face and could not help but stare at the young man from start to finish.

At a certain point Johnathan stood solo on stage after asking his band to take a break and shared an acoustic performance with all of us. Again, simply beautiful.
